Prophecies about the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" in past scriptures

A profound examination of prophetic references to the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" within various religious scriptures, shedding light on their significance and how these prophecies were fulfilled.
A profound examination of prophetic references to the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" within various religious scriptures, shedding light on their significance and how these prophecies were fulfilled.

The messages which Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Krishna asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Zoroaster asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and other Prophets brought to different parts of the world are like tributaries which arise before a mighty river shapes its course. They were all good and wholesome. But they needed to flow at last into one river, demonstrate God’s Oneness, and promote the one ultimate purpose for which mankind had been created. Islam fulfils this purpose, and we can find proof in the previous holy scriptures that it is the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" who would deliver the final message. We find in the Holy Qur’an the following:

الَّذِينَ يَتَّبِعُونَ الرَّسُولَ النَّبِيَّ الْأُمِّيَّ الَّذِي يَجِدُونَهُ مَكْتُوبًا عِنْدَهُمْ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ وَالْإِنْجِيلِ

‘Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet, the Immaculate one, whom they find mentioned in the Torah and the Gospel which are with them.’

The Holy Qur’an (7:158)

The Prophet Abraham asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" is widely regarded as the common father of the Jews, Christians and Muslims. Through his second son, Isaac asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", came all Israelite prophets including such towering figures as Jacob asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Joseph asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", David asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Solomon asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". The advent of these great prophets was in partial fulfilment of God’s promises to bless the nations of the earth through the descendants of Abraham asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him".

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.”

(Genesis 12:2-3)

And :

“As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant.”

(Genesis 17: 4-8)

In Genesis, chapter 21, Isaac asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" is specifically blessed but Ishmael asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" was also specifically blessed and promised by God to become “a great nation” especially in Genesis 21:13-18.

So through Isaac asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" many great prophets came such as Jacob asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Josef asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". But what happened with the progeny of Ishmael asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him"? Didn’t God promise greatness to the seed of Ishmael asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" as well?

In the Bible, we find that God sent Ishmael asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" to the wilderness of a place called Paran (Genesis 21:20-21). According to the Bible, this is a territory adjacent to Canaan. But a territory made up of woods and hills must be a large one, sometimes extending over hundreds and thousands of miles. It cannot be just a strip of land situated within another territory or on its edge. The Biblical description can only mean that the woods and hills of Paran rise from somewhere near Canaan. It cannot mean that Paran is the southern periphery of Canaan.

Arabs: Descendants of Ishmael asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him"

Today only the Arabic people claim to be descendants of Ishmael asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". For hundreds of years, their national traditions are that they are from Ishmael’s asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" progeny. Regarding this, the second Khalifa Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them" writes:

“Only one people today trace their descent from Ishmael and they are the Quraysh. They live in Arabia, and Mecca is their centre. If the Quraysh claim is a pretence, it is difficult to find a motive for it. The claim could not advance their racial status, for the Israelites still looked down upon them. Nothing could make a desert people trace their descent to Ishmael unless the descent was a fact.”

(Introduction to the study of the Holy Qur’an,p. 68)

He continues:

“According to the Bible, the Ishmaelites lived in Paran, and Paran, according to Arab geographers, is the territory extending from Mecca to the northern border of Arabia. Therefore, Paran is part of Arabia as certainly as the Quraysh, and are Ishmael’s descendants. The divine glory which was to rise from Paran was, therefore, to rise from Arabia.”

(Ibid, p.69)

Another proof that Paran is part of Arabia is that in the Valley of Fatimah, which is situated between Makkah and Madinah, if one inquires of the youth who sell the Jadhīmah flower there, where this flower has been brought from, they will answer: مِن بَرِيِّةِ فَارَان in other words, “From the desert of Faran. (Paran is Faran in Arabic)” (Faslul-Khitab, By Hazrat Maulana Nur-ud-Din, Volume 2, p. 208)

From the testimony of the Bible, it is evident that the descendants of Kedar, who was assuredly the son of Ishmael (as), inhabited the region of Arabia. (Isaiah 21:13-18)

In short, from whatever side we may approach this question, there is abundant evidence that the Quraish were the descendants of Ishmael asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and that Paran of the Bible is the land in which they lived. The manifestation of divine glory that was due to take place from Paran (Deuteronomy 33:2) was the advent of the Holy Prophet Muhammad saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", prophesied by Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him".

Prophecy of Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him"

When Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" went to Mount Horeb on the command of God to address the Israelites, God revealed to Moses the Prophecy that:

“I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.”

(Deuteronomy 18:18-20)

From these verses we can derive that the Prophet would be a Law-giving Prophet, and who was to be among the brethren of Israel. He would be a Law-giver because of the words “like unto thee”. As Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" was a Law-giver, the Prophet, who was to be like Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", was also to be a Law-giver. From the sentence “and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him” it also appears that the Promised Prophet was to be a Law-giving Prophet.

Mount Horeb

It is evident that after the Prophet Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" came, Christians tried to apply this prophecy to Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and claim that he was the Last Teacher sent by God.

Comparison

When we apply, one by one, the terms of the prophecy to Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", we find that not one of them, applies to him:

  1. Firstly, Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" didn’t bring a new law. He stated himself: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” (Matthew 5:17)
  2. Secondly, the Promised Prophet was to be raised ‘among the brethren’ of Israel, but Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" was an Israelite so it could not be him
  3. Thirdly, the Promised One has to be a Prophet, but the Christians don’t see Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" a Prophet, they see him as the son of God. Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" himself also never claimed to be a Prophet. (Mark 8:27:30)
  4. Fourthly there is no verse from the Gospels that Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" may be said to have received from God with the command to pass them on to the people he taught.
  5. Fifthly, we have in the prophecy “He shall speak unto them all that I shall command,” The Promised Prophet; according to this, was to give to the world a complete and comprehensive teaching. But Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" didn’t teach all that he was told. He regarded himself as the forerunner of a greater Teacher yet to come. Thus we have: “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” (John, 16:12-13)

From these verses, it appears that the Prophecy in Deuteronomy was not fulfilled in Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". So it must have been a Prophet who came after Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him".

We claim that the revelation of the Qur’an and the advent of the Holy Prophet Muhammad saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" mark the fulfilment of this prophecy:

  • The Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" is from the Quraish, who are descendants of Ishmael asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". The descendants of Ishmael were the brethren of the descendants of Isaac asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", the Israelites.
  • The Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" is the only one claiming to be a Prophet like Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". We have in the Quran: “Verily We have sent to you a Messenger, who is a witness over you even as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh.”(The Holy Qur’an 73:16)
  • When we compare both Prophets we also conclude that the Holy Prophet (sa) has more similarities with Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" than Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" has. Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and Muhammad saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" were born in the normal, natural course, that is, the physical union of man and woman, but Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" was created by a special miracle. Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and Muhammad saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" brought new laws and new regulations for their people, but Jesus came only to fulfil the old law of Moses saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". Unlike Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and Muhammad saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", who were accepted as prophets by their people in their lifetime, Jesus was deserted even by his closest disciples. Both Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and Muhammad saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" ruled and enacted laws besides their being prophets. This was not the case with Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". The only likeness between Moses asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" was that both belonged to the Children of Israel, like all other Israelite prophets such as Solomon asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", David asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Isaiah asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Daniel asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Joshua asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", Zechariah asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", John asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and many others.
  • The prophecy speaks of “words I will put in his mouth.” The Gospels do not contain any such words. On the contrary, the Holy Prophet of Islam saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" brought to the world the Quran which is from beginning to end only the word of God, which God put into his mouth. The Quran describes itself as the word of God. (The Holy Qur’an 2:76)
  • The prophecy said that the Promised One would speak all that he was commanded. The Gospels prove that Jesus did not pass on everything he received from God and that there was to be another after him, who was to do so. The Holy Prophet of Islam fully answers to this description. We have in the Quran: “O Messenger! convey to the people what has been revealed to thee from thy Lord”. (The Holy Qur’an 5:68) Similarly, the verse revealed on the completion of the revelation of the Quran says: “This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed My favour upon you and have chosen for you Islam as religion.” It was the Holy Prophet of Islam saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", therefore, who taught everything and kept back nothing. In the time of Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", people were not ready to receive and to believe in everything worthwhile. But in the time of the Holy Prophet of Islam saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", man had traversed all the stages of spiritual evolution and the time had come for all the truths to be revealed to the world.

The last bit of the prophecy provides a key criterion: “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.”

So God has laid the promise that if a pretender were to appear, he would incur divine punishment and meet with death and defeat. But as we can clearly see from history, the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" did not incur Divine Punishment. When he claimed Prophethood, his followers were low in numbers, and they were on the brink of annihilation. But against all odds, The Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" was able to defeat his enemies and spread his message worldwide. The Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" died full of success. When he died, the whole of Arabia declared faith in him, and after his death, his first Khulafa (Successors) in a few years spread Islam throughout the whole of the then-known world

Prophecies in the New Testament

We now turn to prophecies about the Prophet of Islam which are recorded in the New Testament. From the passages in the New Testament, it appears that another Prophet is to come after Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him".

In the Gospel of John, we read that people went to John the Baptist, and asked him if he were the Christ of the prophecy and he answered no. The people then asked him:

“And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.”

(John 1:20-21)

From this passage it becomes evident that three prophecies were current in the time of Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him": The second coming of Elias asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", the Birth of Christ, and the coming of ‘that Prophet’, that is the Promised One of the prophecy in Deuteronomy.

Now Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" has declared that John himself is Elias. Thus in Matthew (11:14), we have:

“And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.” From Luke (1:17) it also appears that before the birth of John, his father Zacharias had the revelation: “And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias.” Then in Mark (9:13), we have Jesus declaring: “That Elias is indeed come.” And again in Matthew (17:12): “That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed.”

From all these passages, it is clear that according to the Gospels, the second coming of Elias had taken place in John. As for Christ, it is agreed that he is no other than Jesus of the New Testament. Only “that Prophet” remains. He is neither John asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" nor Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", because he is different from both, a third. It is also known that “that Prophet” had not appeared until the time of Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". So it is clear that “that Prophet” of the Bible had to appear, according to the testimony of the Gospels, sometime after Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". After Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", no one has claimed to be “that Prophet” and indeed no one seems to fulfil the signs attributed to “that Prophet” except the Holy Prophet of Islam, Muhammad saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" may Peace and Blessings be upon him.

Then, in John chapter 14 verse 26, it is written:

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”

Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them" writes regarding this prophecy:

“The prophecy lays down that the Comforter will come after the departure of Jesus. When the Comforter comes, he will reprove the world of sin and truth and justice. Of sin, because he will accuse the Jews of disbelief in Jesus. Of truth, because he will correct the erroneous belief in the resurrection of Jesus, and because he will assure the world that Jesus of Nazareth—the Teacher who appeared to Israel—will not again come into the world in person. Of justice, because he will put an end to all satanic forces. The prophecy also says that when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide them into all truth that the book revealed to him will contain no human word, that he will foretell things to come, and that he will glorify Jesus and clear him of all charges”

(Introduction to the study of the Holy Qur’an, p. 93)

So this prophecy unmistakably applies to the Holy Prophet of Islam saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". In Acts (3:21-22) it appears that the Prophet promised in Deuteronomy 18:18 to appear sometime between the departure of Jesus asabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and his second coming. The Comforter, therefore, is no other than the Promised One of Deuteronomy 18:18.

Furthermore, Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them" writes:

“As this Prophet, according to the signs of the Bible, is no other than the Holy Prophet of Islam, we must admit that the Holy Prophet is the Promised One of all Prophets and his Law is the Law prophesied by all Prophets. Who can then say that even while the Old and the New Testaments existed in the world the Quran was a redundance? All the earlier Prophets have pointed to the need of the Quran and prophesied about it. No reasonable plea can be urged by their followers now against the Quran. We can only say that if they deny the need of the Quran, they will cast doubts on the truth of their own Prophets and the truth of the prophecies which they made. Did not Moses say: ‘When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the Prophet hath spoken it presumptuously; thou shalt not be afraid of him.’ ” (Ibid, p.97)

Prophecies in Vedas

Besides the Abrahamic religions. The Hindu religion also prophesied the coming of the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him"

In the Athra Ved (also known as Brahma Ved, meaning Divine knowledge) we read:

“O people! listen to these words with reverence. A very praise-worthy person will appear among the people. He will accept him from among 60090 enemies. His means of transport would be 20 camels . His name will soar high and then return. This great Rishi will have 100 gold coins, 10 pearl necklaces, 300 Arab horses and 10,000 cows.” (Athra Ved Kantam 20-127, 70-1-3)

In this passage, many characteristics of the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" are described:

  • The Promised Rishi is called praiseworthy. The word Muhammad itself means worthy of praise.
  • He and his companions used camels as a means of transport whereas for the Rishis of India, the use of camel is forbidden (Manu Smrithi 5:8).
  • When the Holy Prophet Muhamma saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", appeared in Arabia, the population of the Arabs was stated as a little more than 60,000. The entire population had become his enemies. Almighty God protected him against his enemies. The Holy Quran also says: “And Allah will protect thee from men.” (5:68)
  • ‘Soaring high and returning’ refers to his experience of Mi’raj (Spiritual Ascent to heaven).
  • The 100 gold coins refer to his companions who migrated to Abyssinia due to the severe persecution of the Meccans.
  • The 10 pearl necklaces signify the Ashra-Mubashra, the ten companions of the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", regarding whom God gave the glad tidings of Paradise in this world itself. These are Hazrat Abu Bakr raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them",  Hazrat Umar raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them", Hazrat Usman raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them", Hazrat Ali raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them", Talha raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them", Zubair raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them", Abdur Rahman ibn Auf raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them", Sa’ad ibn Abi Waqqas raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them", Sa’ad ibn Zaid raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them" and Abu Ubaidah raabbreviation for "May Allah be pleased with him/her/them" (may Allah be pleased with them).
  • The 300 Arab horses signify the 300 companions of the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" who participated in the Battle of Badr. They were originally 313. Eight of them were unable to take part in the combat. Four of them were little children, and one of them passed away before the conflict. Thus, 300 persons, including the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", actually took part in the Battle of Badr.
  • 10,000 cows signify the ten thousand holy people who entered Mecca triumphantly with him on his return.

Bhavisyath Puran also contains a prophecy regarding the advent of the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him". Maharishi Vyas Muni occupies an eminent position among the Hindus because of his vast knowledge wisdom, and God-given capabilities. In addition to other religious scriptures, he has written 18 Puranas (ancient legends)  such as Brahma Puran, and Bhagath Puran. The 18th Puran is named the Bhavisyath Puran. It contains prophecies regarding the future. According to the beliefs of the Hindus, this book contains Divine revelations and prophecies. This book contains the following prophecy regarding the Holy Prophet:

“A spiritual reformer will come from a foreign land with his disciples. His name will be Mahamad. He will dwell in a desert.”

(Bhavisyath Purana 3:5-8)

Here the name of the spiritual reformer is clearly given as Muhammad. Generally, all nations outside of India are referred to in the Vedas as “Mlech.” The foreign land is said to be in a desert. Here the Holy Prophet’s saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" companions are especially mentioned. One might contemplate that perhaps there are hardly any other prophets who have had so many companions who moulded their lives in the manner of their prophet.

Maharishi Vyas Muni has mentioned the following qualities of this Muhammad Rishi (Sanskrit for saint or enlightened person) and his followers:

His followers will perform circumcision. They will not keep their hair in the form of Choti as the Brahmans do. They will keep beards. They will bring about a revolution. They will call with a loud voice. They will eat the meat of animals other than that of swine. They will attain purity through Jihad. Their civilization will be called Muslay.

(Bhavishyat Purana Vol. 3 verse:3)

Without any interpretation, all these characteristics agree fully with the characteristics of the Holy Prophet of Islam saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" and his followers. In short, all the prophecies of the divine books of the Hindu religion have been fulfilled in the person of the Holy Prophet of Islam, Hazrat Muhammad saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him".

In the end, a regular Christian or Hindu may claim that Muslims have taken these prophecies out of context. But can this be a coincidence? Is it possible that the numerous prophecies cited here are all individually and combined out-of-context misinterpretations?

The Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" gathered all the nations and religions on a common platform based on their own teachings which are founded on Divine Unity. He gave the message of equality of mankind and universal brotherhood. The Holy Quran says about itself:

فِيهَا كُتُبٌ قَيِّمَةٌ

“Therein are lasting commandments.” (The Holy Qur’an 98:4)

That is, it contains the essence of the teachings of all religious books. The teachings of the Holy Qur’an are simple and universal.

In short, the Holy Prophet saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him", achieved magnificent success in his mission which to this day, even non-Muslim orientalists confirm.

Reverend Bosworth Smith, M.A. writes in his book ‘Mohammed and Mohammedanism’:

“By a fortune absolutely unique in history Muhammad is a three-fold founder of a nation, of an empire, and of a religion and is revered to this day by a sixth of the whole human race as a miracle of purity, of style, of wisdom and of truth.”

O Allah, Shower Thy Mercy and Thy Blessings on the Holy Prophet Muhammad saabbreviation for "Peace be upon him" (peace and blessings of Allah be on him, and his progeny). Thou Art the Praiseworthy, the Lord of Honour.
